Labor Day weekend was an annual Plein Air Event in Amana, IA.  Catiri’s Art Oasis and a collection of community sponsors make this event a great opportunity for artists.  For two and 1/2 days artist paint in the area and at noon on the third day, all work created outside on site in the designated areas are submitted framed and ready for hanging.  Each artist selects a piece for judging.

So being a newcomer to this type of event, I had no alternate plan to use a less rain-sensitive medium than pastels despite the three day forecast of thunderstorms.  We were fortunate that we only encountered intermittent periods of showers, no daytime heavy rains.  I was delighted to not only sell two of the paintings I created at this event, but I actually won an award.  Of course, a rookie mistake I made, is not to photograph the piece before framing and selling!
